Stephen Chow co-writes, directs and stars in this martial arts action comedy set in 1940s Shanghai. Small-time thief Sing (Chow) desperately wants to join the ruthless Axe Gang who run the city. When he and his friend Bone (Lam Chi-chung) begin extorting the residents of a slum known as Pigsty Alley by pretending to be members of the Axe Gang, they discover that many of the tenants are actually kung fu masters. Meanwhile, their actions attract the attention of Brother Sum (Danny Chan), who runs the Axe Gang. With Brother Sum determined to unleash a legendary kung fu master called Beast (Leung Siu-lung) on the people of Pigsty Alley, Sing must embrace his true powers and pick a side in the ensuing fight. The cast also includes Yuen Wah, Yuen Qiu and Huang Shengyi.
