The 2018 Proof Sovereign features a '65' mint mark to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's sapphire coronation; the first coin to feature this special symbol.
This coin weighs the same as a regular (or Bullion) Sovereign, at 7.98grams and 22-carat gold (91.67% fineness). This proof has been struck using specially selected blanks and highly polished dies. During striking, the coinage dies exert enormous pressure on the coin blank, with at least two separate blows (or strikes), ensuring that the impression has extra clarity.
