Obverse: The obverse of the King George V 1912 Gold Sovereign depicts the bare head portrait, designed by Bertram Mackennal. This effigy of King George V shows his profile facing left. It is the first official portrait of George V to be used on coins minted by the Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, 'B.M.', are visible at the bottom of the head. The inscription on the coin reads 'GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT: OMN: REX F.D.IND:IMP:'.
