About this item The Royal Mint Centenary of Flying Scotsman 2023 UK £2 Silver Proof Colour Coin, marking 100 years of the world's most famous steam locomotive. This was the first official UK coin to honour the locomotive, struck in partnership with the National Railway Museum. The reverse, designed by coinage artist John Bergdahl, captures a side-on view of the locomotive steaming ahead, with the inscriptions 'LNER' and the service number '4472', brought to life in vivid colour by Royal Mint designer Ffion Gwillim. The colouring is inspired by Flying Scotsman's LNER 'Apple Green' livery. Struck in .925 silver with fine gold plating to the rim for a bimetallic finish, and carrying the 'Live For The Journey' edge inscription, with the obverse bearing Martin Jennings' portrait of King Charles III. Presented in the original Royal Mint packaging with certificate and illustrated booklet, a fitting tribute for collectors and railway enthusiasts alike.
